Personally, I am a big fan of the concept explained in the secret by Rhonda Byrnes, as well as a somewhat believer in the law of attraction. However, I feel that like many things, it has been taken out of context.
What is the law of attraction?
“Simply put, the Law of Attraction is the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on. It is believed that regardless of age, nationality or religious belief, we are all susceptible to the laws which govern the Universe, including the Law of Attraction. It is the Law of Attraction which uses the power of the mind to translate whatever is in our thoughts and materialize them into reality. In basic terms, all thoughts turn into things eventually.” (Thelawofattraction.com)
“You reap what you sow.” But to actually reap, you can’t sit on your ass visualizing what you sow, you actually have to put in the work.
I believe that for the law of attraction to actually work you have to be pro-active. Waiting for opportunities to come your way, and being mad that they don’t isn’t very productive. Creating your own opportunities and then visualizing that you’ll complete the task ahead might be helpful. Yet, remembering the distinction between visualizing and fantasizing is dire.
Fantasize
verb
1. indulge in daydreaming about something desired.
Visualize
verb
1. to recall or form mental images or pictures.
You cannot think your way to financial freedom, or better health, but you can visualize completing the steps required in order to reach your goal to increase success. Life is all about balance, and this goes for the law of attraction as well. Visualization is great when combined with pro-activity, but alone, both of these things have a reduced value.
Context and balance, and being able to see the bigger picture is in my opinion “the secret.”
I myself like to think that whatever you put out in the world will come back to you x3. For example, if you are spreading positivity, it will come back to you x3. This rule of three can be helpful in understanding where many fail. If all you ever do is imagining what you want, more imagination is what you’ll get. While if you visualize and actually do what you are visualizing you’ll get more of that back.
Visualization as per the law of attraction can truly be a helpful tool in gaining the life you want, the problem is that books and movies like “the secret” are isolating this idea which results in removing it from its context.
Whether you are a visualizer or a doer you have something to learn from the other. Don’t reduce yourself to the singular, strive to be it all.
It’s true, the law of attraction doesn’t mean that you can rely on the universe to bring something to you when in fact, you’re doing exactly the opposite actions that might possibly lead you to that desired outcome. Thank you for sharing this to us 🤗

I have read the book and seen the movie as well. Somehow it does make sense, but on the other hand, you should not just visualise and be convinced that the universe will make your wishes come true. This does not happen. Unless you work hard enough to accomplish your dreams, they will not happen just because you are thinking about them.

The law of attraction (LOA) is the belief that the universe creates and provides for you that which your thoughts are focused on. It is believed by many to be a universal law by which “Like Always Attracts like.” The results of positive thoughts are always positive consequences. The same holds true for negative thoughts always leading to bad outcomes. But the LOA is much more than generalizations; thinking about red Lamborghinis will bring you red Lamborghinis – always. To the believers, questioning the validity of the LOA is akin to heresy and blasphemy; it creates religious fervor. To the uninitiated, it may seem silly to discuss even the possibility that such a law could exist.

I tend to day dream for a bit–then visualize for a bit more. Then I go out and work for it. That is how I started my bookkeeping business originally. Of course now I am semi retired–but that business lasted for approx 10 years and I still have 1 or two clients from when it started!

I totally believe in the Law of Attraction, but only in terms of creating situations that will attract what you are thinking of. It takes a lot of hard work and drive to achieve this.

I have not seen the movie or read the book but this quote speaks to me: ‘“You reap what you sow.” But to actually reap, you can’t sit on your ass visualizing what you sow, you actually have to put in the work.
Indeed no matter how much we visualize anything can only achieve an objective if we have real goals to work towards.

I believe the law of attraction is just an entry into the door. It’s what you do with it once you get through the door that counts. Attraction can only take you so far.

Interesting theory. I think the law of attraction can be quite basic.

I think visualization for something you want to achieve, like you said, a goal or something bigger is important to have in life.

I believe in the law of attraction, especially when it comes to being positive. I agree that it’s more than just fantasizing and visualizing and you actually putting in the work to get what you want is as important.

Such a very interesting theory but what I know about it is that law of attraction is something what you want and what you focus and desire.

I don’t know if I believe in the law attraction or think things are just sheer chance… this is interesting.

I agree with you! I know people who sit back and say “if it’s meant to be, it will happen,” but they don’t take any steps to make it happen. I’m all about being proactive!
